GUIDING THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF OUR CHILDREN

An Experience of a Lifetime

The Crosspoint Foundation has set up a Volunteer / Internship Program to help at the school overseen by the organisation. It is a Non-Profit Organisation established in South Africa with world-wide sponsorship. The purpose is to open and establish low-fee private schools in South Africa, bringing good quality education to impoverished and Learning Barrier children. These schools are branded under the name: Crosspoint Academy.

As a volunteer, you will be assisting in Crosspoint Academy – Strand. This school is located in the heart of Strand, Cape Town, South Africa in a business district along the beach. Having Grades RR & R (pre-kindergarten & kindergarten) and Grades 1-9.

The school serves the Strand and surrounding communities, bringing children from the impoverished townships of Lwandle, Nomzamo, Zola, and others. With our low-fees, we are able to reach children and families that cannot afford many other private schools, nor are able to get into the overcrowded government schools.

Though Crosspoint Academy is one of the lowest fee schools in the area, many parents are in such dire financial difficulties, they still need help paying school fees for their child. Where there are legitimate reasons for their situation—like parental disability, death, or adverse destitution—we connect them with sponsors locally and globally. These sponsors also help the school and organisation directly.

As a volunteer here with us, you will be living in rented Volunteers Quarters near the school accommodating up to 6 individuals in grouped co-ed arrangements. You will be joining other National and International volunteers here. During your stay with us, you will be involved in some of the following daily and weekly duties:

  • Participating in supervised interaction with children in the school.
  • Assisting children with learning differences (like Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Autism Spectrum, Dyslexia, ODD, and ADHD).
  • Accompany the child with visitations to the on-site Social Worker.
  • Helping the children with after-school care (such as homework).
  • Helping with supervised walks to the Library, Public Swimming Pool, and for playtime at the Beach.

If you are seeking a career in Education, Children's Ministry, Childhood Development, Counseling or Social Service, this would be a great oppotunity for you to learn through the giving your time here. It would forever change your life connecting with the hearts of these children and the culture of South Africa.

Below are download links to a simple questionnaire, as well as the application to join the program.

We accept both men and women to the program, but you must be at least 18 years of age upon arrival here.
